DIARY
Thursday

No weight loss the 29th. Depressing. Lost a pound on the 5th! Yea!! Back in the saddle again. Total of ten pounds in ten weeks. Slow but surely you just take it ONE DAY AT A TIME! YES!!

Had an interview today (that's what we call auditions for commercials). I dressed up real pretty. Bright lipstick. Tight toreador pants. Lime green shirt. Dangling earrings. Hubba, Hubba. Got there and guess what? They were looking for a gray haired, old lady type for a rest home scene. And me without my gray wig. Drats!

Gettin' close to my Saturday gettin' on the scales day. So far so good, I think. Been drinin' pink lemonade by the gallon. Not doin' too good with the exercise (sniffle, cough, cough) 'cause I got a cold and been stayin' inside. Even so I feel pretty confident that I've dropped another pound. Time will tell. --MFL

  Saturday
Lost another pound this week. Yes! I've modified my eating habits just a little since beginning this journey nine weeks ago. I figure if I eat like I weighed 145 lb. (my goal) someday that's what I'll weigh. So.... I eat ONE PLATE or BOWL of food three times a day. Lately I've been having oatmeal every morning for breakfast. Why? Because I LOVE OATMEAL, OK? Usually have a salad for lunch. If we eat dinner out often order a salad (any salad, don't limit myself to "weight watchers" types). Dinner at home is limited to ONE plate - starting to cook with Tofu instead of meat (still eat chicken but plan to drop that in the near future) and the plate is NEVER heaping, just normal amounts of food like someone who weighed 145 lb. would eat. Between meal snacks are usually fruit or pretzels twice a day ONLY, occasionally even one piece of chocolate or a small (one or two bites) of some other rich treat. I keep in mind the basic food groups and try to include a little from each group everyday. SO FAR SO GOOD. Reminder to myself ....DRINK LOTS OF WATER! I don't know if this is a good way for others but it seems to be the best for me so far. Until I put my Mystery Fat Lady up on the web and started this eating regimen I had been "dieting" for about three years and essentially GAINING weight (lose five pounds gain seven, ad infinitum). Since starting this regimen nine weeks ago (ok, I'm the first to admit I haven't been at it THAT long) I've not felt deprived and I've lost nine pounds....and that's with Thanksgiving, Christmas AND a new millennium thrown in there, too. Anyway, again I send you all the good vibes I can muster. Enjoy life. Live, Love, Laugh hehehehehe. ---Mystery Fat Lady
P.S. Looking at my chart I noticed that I had lost seven pounds in my first two weeks. Then I gained back three. Some weeks after that I stayed the same and now, for the past four weeks I've been losing a pound each week. This morning the scale said 191 down from a high of 200. I feel SO MUCH healthier! EXERCISE has also been a key ingredient in my progress. I walk a mile every day and take yoga three times a week.

Sunday
Back in the saddle again. Yahoo! A two pound loss this week. I went back to watching portions. Drank more water. Continued with a little exercise (must increase the exercising). And tried and was mostly successful at eating only three times a day...no snacking. Wish me luck with this in the weeks to come.

Tuesday
Yesterday was a terrible day. Today will be better. We signed a contract to have our garage rebuilt. It's taken TWO FRIGGEN YEARS to get through the bureaucratic tangled web thrown over us by the planning department. I could write a book, "Under the SilverLake.MagicPlace Sun," and become famous. TODAY I will eat little, exercise some (gotta work back into it) and learn to love myself. --love and kisses, Mystery Fat Lady

Saturday
No weight loss this week.........ARRRRRGGGG!!! Could it have been the chocolate chip cookies and assorted homemade goodies at the Botanical Clubs annual "Holiday Cookie" Meeting? Or the Thai dinner last night after the movie? Or perhaps the LARGE popcorne at the movie? Really, that's all I can think of in terms of not sticking to healthful, low calorie eating during the week. I'll be back later. Right now I just want to go take a nap. Bye......z-z-z-z-z-z

Thursday
Two days before the weekly weigh-in. Its on my mind. I feel like I want to fast or at lease eat like a bird so I won't disappoint you on the scale day. I had septet with meat sauce (ground turkey) and a salad for brunch. Two cups of coffee and two diet cokes. So far. It's 7pm. The night's young. Steppin' out where there's likely to be cookies.

Saturday
Today I am not smart. Didn't eat a morsel of food all day. Drank coffee and coke instead. Felt shaky. We stopped at Carl's Jr. around 3:30pm. Ate from the all-you-can-eat salad bar with some potato salad and macaroni salad. Also a breaded, fried fish sandwich with cheese. A day of bad, unhealthy nutrition and high calories. It's now three hours later and I feel bloated, fat, and guilty. Makes YOU feel smug, don't it? All I got to say - "Tomorrow's another day."

Thursday
Yesterday and today were a little harder than had been expected. OK, so I sniffed a goodie. Yeah, that's right, I sniffed a piece of chocolate and I ate it. A piece yesterday and another one today. What could I do? I just happened to find half a Hershey bar way back in the freezer where I must of hid it when I was doin' such things. It's gone now so I won't be tempted by that evil thing again. Other than that I'm doin' pretty good. We went walking yesterday. One mile. Skipped today but will exercise some tomorrow. He is in good shape and I want to keep him that way. If I suggest exercise he is always so happy and he does it with me. So it's for his health as well as for mine. Laters -- Mystery Fat Lady

Tuesday 11/30/99
I'm on a path of my own making. I figure if I eat like I weighed 145 lb. (my goal) someday that's what I'll weigh. So.... I eat ONE PLATE or BOWL of food two or three times a day (most mornings I skip the plate and just have a piece of fruit for breakfast). The food is whatever....usually a salad if we eat out and the plate is NEVER heaping, just normal amounts of food like some healthy person who weighed 145 lb. would eat. No between meal snacks, uh uh, not even a sniff. I keep in mind the basic food groups and try to include
a little from each group everyday. SO FAR SO GOOD. Reminder to myself....drink lots of water. I don't know if this is a good way for others but it seems to be the best for me so far. Until I put my Mystery Fat Lady web site up and started this eating regimen I had been "dieting" for about three years and essentially GAINING weight (lose five pounds gain seven, ad infinitum). The will power involved in sticking to specific foods and combinations of foods made the task unbearable and ultimately impossible for me. Since starting this regimen a week and a half ago (ok, I'm the first to admit I haven't been at it long) I've not felt deprived and I've lost eight pounds....and that's with Thanksgiving thrown in there, too.
Live, Love, Laugh.

Sunday "Leftovers: waist or waste? Waste!" Mystery Fat Lady
My ultimate Sunday test: AN ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET BRUNCH. I had one small plate of food. That's all. Half a toasted bagel, a teaspoon cream cheese, one slice lox, some onions, a slice of tomato, ten cubes of cantaloupe, one bite of cheese cake. Three cups of coffee. Period. No problem. The Secret? NO SMALL TALK. Engaged in a conversation I had to use my brain to follow. I guess it kept my gray matter occupied with matters other than culinary. Added benefit: I learned something new.

Friday"Turkeys aint the only birds gettin' stuffed around here," Mystery Fat Lady

Spent Thanksgiving day with four "real" relatives and 25 "fake" ones around a groaning board.

Ate five cubes of cantaloup in the morning. Drank coffee and diet coke.

Got to the feast around 2:30. Nibbles, nibbles everywhere and not a morsel to eat. Drank two glasses of red wine and almost swooned. Oy vay! One dip looked especially inviting so I promised myself I would put a little on my ONE plate of food when the time came. It came and just as I'd promised myself I ate ONE plate of food. The pumpkin pie came next and just as I'd promised myself I ate ONE piece...gooooooooood! And that's it folks. Not bad for a rolly polly fat lady!

Monday  "Don't expect somethin' everyday, it aint human," ...Mystery Fat Lady.

Ate a large bowl of beans (oh, great, and me without my Bean-No) with marinara sauce for breakfast. I guess it was about two cups. Drank three cups of coffee. Ate half of a banana.

Ate lunch at the Sizzler. Shared "Malabu Chicken" with him. I had four quarter sized bits of the thing and almost all of the rice which turned out to be something like rice-a-roni the San Francisco treat, about 2/3 of a cup I would reckon. Green "make-your-own" salad. Drank a diet pepsi.

Stopped for a cafe latte(sp) and shared half of a non-fat ginger cookie with him. It said half of the cookie was 50 calories.

Had half a pear.

Plan to have a large bowl of corn flakes mixed with grape nuts with sweetener and one cup of milk for a late dinner.

IF I can manage (and I think I can, thank you) not to eat anything else after I have my cereal I estimate my calories today at right around 1000 with very low fat (I love you, Fat Lady, kiss, kiss, kiss).
